AMID the heat and the flies, Elders auctioneer Wayne Manoni, displayed a fine mix of tenacity and humour to achieve a $50,000 top price at last week's Merredin clearing sale, on behalf of EJ and SS Welsh.
The winning bid was placed on the second last machine offered, a John Deere 8760 4WD tractor.
While bids were a bit slow in coming, buyers came in late just before the fall of the hammer, although a few of the larger items failed to make the vendor's reserve.
Another John Deere, a 4840 Power Shift with 24.5 x 32 duals, also attracted keen bidding before being knocked down for $12,250, while an elderly Inter 1486 was bought for $3500.
Another blast from my past was an International 554 FEL which sold for $4000, a bit more than its new price all those years ago.
Fans of Volvo trucks would have enjoyed the day. A N12 tandem axle prime mover sold for $15,000 while a tandem drive N1023 with a longer wheelbase, could only attract a bid of $5000, which the vendor deemed inadequate.
Three older trucks were offered with an unlicensed Ford D1210 tipper making $3000, an unlicensed J5 Bedford with Honda pump and two water tanks totalling 7000L Source
Question : I have a Craftsman Garden Tractor Mod# XXX-XXXXXX. While mowing the tractor suddenly stopped moving. No forward or reverse. There was no indication of trouble of any kind. Tractor free wheels easily even with the freewheel lever in drive position. Oil appears dark but contains no metal particles. Can you provide any idea as to what failed? I took tracor to a repair shop and they are suggesting the hydrostatic drive pump failed to the tune of $1500.00 in parts. Do I just dump the tractor and all my accessories? Thanks
Answer :
Unfortunately, When it comes to this type of tractor, What you are describing as a sub-compact tractor. There is nothing that you are going to be able to get with a loader or one that is big enough to do what you are wanting to do, that will not mean you will have to form a good relationship with Bank of America.
Most of the Miniature farm tractors that are worth buying, even without the loader, will cost at least 6 thousand dollars and more…USED.. Add the loader and you are talking at least another 2 to 3 thousand..Used…..and they are hard to find.
My suggestion is to buy a GOOD ZTR mower to do th mowing with. Buy this NEW and make sure that it is a good one. Not a piece of junk. Stay away from the MTD and Cub CADET Brands or anything made by MTD You will spend at least $$6000.00 Then look for a used bobcat or other brand of SKIDLOADER to do the dirt moving. It will also come in handy for other projects…….Keep the two pieces of equipment separate.
