Shrieks of Elmo! Elmo! flooded the Sunny Day Theater as kids and their parents craned their necks to see the beloved furry red Muppet this morning at Busch Gardens.
The theme park is putting the final touches on its brand-new Sesame Street Safari of Fun children's area and a few lucky families got a sneak peek today.
Kids will be able to eat with Cookie Monster, pose with Big Bird and "fly" with Grover on the park's first roller coaster designed for children who are at least 38 inches tall.
"When you first look at it, it looks slow," said 10-year-old Marshae Scott. "But when you actually get on it, it's fast. It's really exciting."
Other than a little flub with Snuffy's Elephant Romp – the fiberglass Snuffleupagus seats didn't fit and will be reinstalled overnight – the play area is ready to open on Saturday.
The area's new 3,000-square-foot splash area was another big hit. "I love that you can get wet," said 7-year-old Austin Jacon of Kissimmee, dripping wet after standing under overflowing buckets of water in Bert & Ernie's Watering Hole.
Kids fired water cannons, ran through bubblers and played with hula hoops in the shallow splash zone.
