Australian John Senden was justifiably proud of his perseverance after completing an astonishing comeback at the US PGA Tour's Byron Nelson Championship.
Early in the second round, Senden had slumped to four-over. He needed to pick up five strokes simply to make the halfway cut, and he survived with nothing to spare by sinking a five-metre birdie at the 36th hole.
The Queenslander parlayed that hard-earned reprieve into his second best result of the year by shooting 65-64 in the final two rounds to finish seventh behind winner Rory Sabbatini and earn $US217,750 ($A278,275).
"I've given 110 per cent effort every single day of my career and I think that makes a difference," Senden said.
"I was four-over through 23 holes and just had to wake myself up and get back into it. I had a good stretch, got a few good breaks and holed a nice putt on the last hole.
"I had to dig deep to get it back and it tells me something. Every shot counts and I've always believed if you're running 50th after three rounds and fight your way back to 35th place, those points and that money count.
"I think that was the reason I won the John Deere Classic and the Australian Open (in 2006) and the reason I'm standing here today.
Source• Quality: The Trimble and Deere were the most robust-looking with very solid wiring harness.
• Ease of installation: Apart from the big Müller terminal, all the units used a sucker to attach to the windscreen.
• How quickly and easily can you get going? All were pretty quick but the Deere was the quickest - provided it's cultivation that you're doing. The Topcon is more complicated, especially when it comes to entering mounted implement details. The Teejet scored with its clear instructions.
• Navigation: How easy was it to follow the navigation? The LED light bars from Claas and John Deere were good, though the bigger displays from Trimble, Topcon, Müller and Helm were more useful when spraying. Claas uses both.
• Memory functions: Trimble, Topcon and Müller offer a whole raft of memory functions recording the field, tracking and individual reference points. On the other hand Teejet comes without any memory function - if the power fails then the tracking data goes, too.
• Extras: If you want features like area measurement, return-to-a-particular-point and headland A-B line, units with a display often offer more scope than a simple light bar.
