Road workers will do the trimming instead of spending $25,000 to have the work done by a private firm.
The Wright County Board of Supervisors has decided to let the secondary road department mow with leased equipment for at least the next three years instead of hiring a third party to do the work.
The board signed a lease May 18 with Diamond Mowers of Sioux Falls for $13,020 annually. The county will get a new 7130 John Deere four-wheel drive tractor and twin rotary mower (back and side) with a three-year parts and labor warranty.
"This company does business throughout the midwest," said County Engineer Dan Waid. "Their mowers are good, and I'm very satisfied with what they do."
Jim Dahlgren had been maintaining the 176 miles of paved road ditches for the county, receiving just under $25,000 last year for four mowings. "Sometimes it might be just three times. It depends a lot on the weather," said Waid. "We will try for four."
