Mexico City Council business was short and sweet Monday night, with the passage of three resolutions that will provide long distance telecommunication services to city facilities, reroute a storm drainage issue for Ringo and Kent street residents, and provide funding for four annual events that have a history of bringing revenue into Mexico. Council members voted 4-0 – councilman Steve Nichols was absent – to pass a resolution authorizing the city manager to enter into an agreement with AT&T to provide local and long distance telecommunication services to City Hall, and the Singleton Maintenance Center. The city recently advertised for the services and received bids from AT&T (its current provider) and Socket Telecom, Inc. AT&T was awarded the contract for a three-year period. In order to take advantage of the service savings, the city of Mexico will need to upgrade its current trunk system at the City Hall location to a Digital T-1. City officials said this will be a fairly simple procedure that will be completed by the city's hardware provider, Towner Communications.
