KENOSHA, Wis. -- A 70-year-old Kenosha man was injured Sunday afternoon when he was run over by his tractor, according to the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department.
Salem rescue workers said Glenn Franz had some cracked ribs and possibly some internal injuries. Franz's grandson, Jeremy Franz, told the sheriff's department that his grandfather keeps the 1940s-era John Deere model as a "toy" and rides it for recreation in the back yard. Jeremy Franz said Glenn told him the tractor ran out of gas and that he was standing on the side of the tractor, in front of one of the tires, to fill it up. He put the gas in and then accidentally hit the ignition, according to the Sheriff's Department report. The tractor had been in fourth gear. After the tire ran him over, Glenn got up, and ran down the tractor to stop it. Jeremy Franz said his grandfather didn't want to go to the hospital, but they called a rescue squad.
