We moved from the city to the country seven years ago with a push mower, two shovels, a rake and a little wind whirlygig shaped like a dog (raising his leg). It was quickly discovered that to keep nature at bay on our nearly 100 acre farm at the foot of the Laurel Highlands, we would need more.
It wasn't long before Tractor Supply and Home Depot became second homes. One Saturday afternoon, Chris, the tool guy at Lowe's, called the house to see if I was OK. "You haven't been in for three days Mr. Paulsen. Everything alright?"
A gas-powered tiller? Gotta have it. A riding mower, chainsaw, sprayer, fencepost auger, compact hobby tractor with mini front-loader and an ancient and nearly indestructible Ford pickup soon followed.
We built a greenhouse, planted gardens and orchards, fenced pastures, built stalls and boarded horses. We asked a neighbor to plant hay next to the fields we lease to him for his corn.
This spring, we turned a corner.
We bought a tractor.
It's a giant version of the one included in every miniature plastic-formed play-set farm. You know the toy -- made by the same folks who molded army men -- it came with a farmer, his wife, three cows, two chickens, a goat, a horse, eight sections of split rail... Source

I ordered this tractor for my 2 year-old son. He inspected it and moved on to other Christmas toys. He did come back to it later and played with it a little along with the other tractors he received. Almost immediately, the hay-baler fell off. Upon inspection, I found the the hay baler to be made of very flemsy plastic. A couple of days later, the steering wheel to the tractor broke. I would not recommend this toy. We ordered a Case front-end-loader for him for Christmas as well. The Case is a much better, sturdier product which I would buy again.

Our son is in love with all things tractor and so we got this for him for Christmas. Sadly, it falls apart insanely easily. The wheels pop off, the baler is wonky, etc. He adores his tractor so even though it’s in a sad state he won’t allow it to be removed from his room. We hope to find a better option that is made more durable (this one is mainly plastic which surprised me).

Some are painted John Deere green. Others bear the Case logo. Rudell has more than a dozen farm tractor implements he's made from scratch -- no directions, and more »
