The Kane County Farm Bureau's fifth annual Touch-A-Tractor event this weekend is giving the public an opportunity to get its hands on tons of agricultural equipment.
Touch-A-Tractor offers interactive stations for all ages, pedal tractor rides, corn-shelling activity, a farm animal petting zoo, and more than a dozen pieces of agricultural machinery for viewing and touching.
The event continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Kane County Fairgrounds, at Randall Road and Oak Street in St. Charles.
"We're here with our granddaughter and it brings back memories of when this entire area was all farmland," said Carol Stage, a former St. Charles resident who returned from Arizona for a visit. "My uncle farmed the land at Prairie Street and Randall Road, and every time we return to the area we are amazed at all the development."
Ryan Klassy, public affairs coordinator for the Kane County Farm Bureau, said eight antique tractors and several pieces of new equipment, built by John Deere and Case, were featured.
"This event is really an outdoor extension of Ag Days, our indoor hands-on program at Mooseheart," said Suzi Myers, agricultural literacy coordinator for Kane County Farm Bureau.
