Detectives with the Bedford County Sheriff's Department have recovered a pricey piece of farm equipment stolen more than a year ago and have arrested the man they claim is responsible.
28-year-old Tyler Augustus Mook of Old Nashville Dirt Road was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with theft of property over $1,000 and alteration of serial numbers. He is currently free on $20,000 bond.
According to a report by Det. Sgt. Scott Jones, he and Det. Sgt. David Sakich received information that a John Deere tractor with a front end loader that had been stolen over a year ago was possibly at a residence in Lincoln County.
The detectives paid a visit to the residence and spoke with the homeowner, Danny Corder, and inquired about the tractor.
Corder told the investigators that he had purchased the tractor from Mook, "a guy he worked with about a year ago."
"He said that he and another guy hired to haul the tractor went to Mr. Mook's residence to purchase the tractor," the report said.
Jones also told the Times-Gazette that Corder "had no idea" the tractor was stolen. The detectives then had the victim of the theft examine the tractor, which he was able to identify.
