This is my fourth
string trimmer after one electric and two gas powered
string trimmers. The first two used .080 string. The electric had an automatic feed which was useless. The second one, which was my first gas powered
trimmer, had bump feed, also useless. It had a 4-cycle
engine and not a lot of power. Eventually the engine stopped working. The.080 string doesn’t last very long. The third one was a 2-cycle gas
trimmer and used 17″ lengths of .105 string. That worked great. Even though changing string was a slight nuisance, the .105 string lasts so much longer that it is well worth it. Of course, the only cost effective way to do this is to buy a roll of string and cut it yourself. The pre-cut stuff is just too expensive. However, sadly, the engine didn’t last. So I found the Poulan Pro and it had all the features I wanted. It starts easy, weighs about the same, has a nice D handle, and the head is interchangeable with my old
trimmer. I can also interchange the brush cutter head from my old trimmer. The head calls for a slightly different size string, but the .105 works great and you can get it in bulk. I use this trimmer to maintain 5 miles of bike trails, so it gets a workout....
